Interesting discussion and I am also absorbing the recommendations! When I watched the video, I focused on the boy’s body language, which I think for the most part is pretty controlled for a young boy. That said, he did use his arms to push off/away the dog, and that’s an invitation to the pup to play. I think @Jfly1321 may have mentioned this in her ideas, but the boy makes eye contact with the pup, and that’s also an invitation to play, and because he doesn’t have proper manners yet, that means jump. Towards the end of the video when he walked away from the dog, the dog stared at him but stopped jumping probably because the fun was ending (boy was not engaging). Lastly, related to the four paws on the ground rule, “find its” are a great way to initiate that. So, instead of feeding treats from the hand, you would toss a treat on the ground and say “find it” – the only way the dog can get the treat is to have his paws on the ground. It’s something I used with the lab I am currently training who was VERY jumpy initially. Once she learned that find it = treats, she LOVES playing it, and is very motivated to not jump. Good luck!!
