Dogs love digging mostly because they are dogs. ????
As I remember, before, digging and other behaviors like destruction, scavenging were considered bad behaviors. But all of this is part of a dog’s nature. And I feel we should let Dogs behave like Dogs, for the overall welfare of our dogs.
And nowadays R+ trainers suggest these behaviors can be practiced in a controlled environment, like a designated digging area in your backyard, an empty amazon box provided just for destruction (and funny they also train their dogs to pick after). They are like mental enrichment, satisfying their mental needs.
The other day I saw this video where a cattle dog digs flowing water paving the way. What a great way to use digging. ????????
