I love to break up treats super-small and either throw them on the ground so they have to use their nose to “find it” in the grass. I feel like, if they are actively sniffing through their nose, they usually aren’t barking. I would start somewhere away from the trigger zone and play a few rounds of the “find it”, as long as dog isn’t barking. Mark and reward with an even higher value treat, if goes well. – Paula M.
