Pick one behavior to start with when in the real world. What is your top priority? Come? Leave it? Try putting on leash and harness as usual, then have high value treats on hand! Start the walk SLOWLY! Literally one step at a time if that is what it takes. When Della starts to lose focus, just stop and calmly wait for her to make eye contact with you and then reward. One more step, maybe two, until she loses focus again, repeat with waiting for her to re-engage with you and treat. Walks will be painfully slow and short to start with but you need to show her that the rules still apply even when there is a world of sniffs and adventures. During your walks, make sure to take plenty of “sniff breaks” where you can tell her “go sniff” and she will learn that there will be time given for all the good smells if she just relaxes 🙂
