I love all the points being shared here and the open-mindedness to seeing the “whole picture” of the dog’s body language and situation. I do think it’s helpful to have a “zoomed out” perspective on how to describe some behaviors. Meaning, rather than having to label it as one very specific thing or another, for example, what @Catherine said about considering this as having a “distance increasing” function from the communication standpoint of the dog.
