The most common of those default behaviors I see is “Sit to Greet”. I use it as a jumping off point on a far broader topic. I like your use of the term micromanagement @Catherine – it seems like it would be a good way to help dog owners empathize and move more towards cooperative learning with their dogs!
Setting up a dog’s training environment to have an array of “right choices” for them to make (like when we teach Place or Mat) is often a good scenario to help dog owners learn to shape.
Shaping can be a tricky skill for both dog and person to learn though. What behaviors/cues have you seen to be the best gateways to shaping?
