I’ve noticed the same thing. And when I was training service dogs, we taught them a cue “Fixit” to untangle themselves. We’d put the leash between their forelegs, then step on the leash to lower it below their “wrist” and let it bump their leg. As they stepped over it, we’d add the cue. Soon, they could do it just on a verbal.
Joy seems to do better on a longer, elastic lead than she does on a short fixed length lead, for some reason. Or maybe, I handle the leash differently? That’s possible!
I think some pet owners are impatient with their dogs, and need encouragement to consider the dogs’ perspective. How do you think we can help them be more empathic and teach the dogs to navigate the restraint better?
