New puppy owners can get spooked by warnings from their vets that any interactions or exposure to other dogs before all their puppies core vaccines are completed can result in deadly illness. Coming from a background in sheltering, I’ve seen so many young adult dogs surrendered because they developed serious problem behaviors because they never got the socialization support they needed.
I tread carefully but do talk about social and emotional “vaccinations” through proper socialization at critical periods.
Do folks have other ways of framing that conversation with puppy owners to explain how important this is? I’d be grateful for other ways to address this issue with clients.
