A bit late on this. But the pro ones have covered most of them. ????

    Here are my thoughts:

Starting off with engagement/disengagement game. To make the dogs get into this pattern, start indoors, something like looking at the cars thru windows. Initially click for under threshold engagement, and then click only after disengagement and work your way up.

Practice this so much that as soon as you set up yourself near a window the dog come ready to training with you.

You can add variations in this step. Some examples depending on the dog – starting off with opaque windows and then see through, opening the windows inch by inch because the sound matters too, or adding curtains and slowly working your way up until the curtains are off and windows wide open. If the house is not suitable for this. May be drive to a area where there is moderate movement of cars and work the same way except seeing thru car windows.

Now, set up near a not so busy parking lot, (have to explore and research around) where cars are moving at less than 10mph. This is stationary set up, that mean the dog is in same position, bringing his comfortable bed and your chair to sit can help. Starting off at under threshold distance is important and for the dog to succeed. And start playing engagement/disengagement game.

Can also get a helper friend – empty parking lot – start with less than 10 mph and work your way up with the speed.

As the dog is doing well, decrease the distance but same specific speed (10 mph)

    20ft – 15ft – 10ft @10mph

So there are 2 variables distance and speed, keep one constant and work with other and start all over again when you increase the speed to 20mph.

When the dog has succeeded in stationary set up. Next is – in motion. Again, have to start all over again, going at the dog’s pace.

With the movement, can also add 123 pattern game, auto check ins, rewarding for waking beside. Of course, all of this has to be trained before in low distraction in order to use them in the actual scenario.

I would also make sure that that dog has got his physical and emotional needs met, that way he is calmer and is able to think and make choices.
