After being immersed in the dog-watching world for so many years, it is nearly physically painful for me to see a dog so misunderstood by a professional in instructional videos. Part of our jobs as knowledgeable, science-based trainers must be reaching well-meaning pet owners with messages of kindness to be able to explain what their dogs are actually trying to communicate and then engage those people in learning how to decipher this cross-species communication themselves.
*okay, off my soap box*
Was your friend able to hear what you were saying about the change in the handler’s demeanor? I was thinking that I saw fearful/reactive behavior from the handler in response to the dog having to escalate from a whine/growl to a chest-growl when that subtler request for space went unheeded.
