Regarding agility and shy dogs, in my experience I have had success with using simply agility type tasks such as jumping over a case of water bottles or crates to simply putting the front feet on step stools have given fearful dogs confidence. In fact, we have been doing this with Barkley, my sister’s dog. It has (slowly) helped him so much with his confidence level. In one context of jumping water bottle cases, he generalized the behavior on his own to jumping over the step stool! He already knew “2 fronts” which is front feet on the top step. One day ( while my sister was actually using it and why it was out) he simply jumped over it on his own, then proceeded to perform ” 2 fronts”!! Of course he was generously rewarded! That was huge for him since he started showing signs of being fearful.
If I have time tonight, I will post some video and pictures.
