Puzzle and I are just re-starting our Nose Work journey.
The first time we tried, our then instructor taught the “alert” behavior first, and we rather got stuck there – with Puzzle offering the behavior often and forcefully but not seeming to connect it with the presence of an odor. Now we’re studying with a certified K9 Nose Work trainer. She has Puzzle focused on finding cookies and pairing those finds with birch scent. As you can see from the picture of Puzzle on our drive home, it seems she used her brain a LOT and is very relaxed!
The way something is trained does make a difference it seems.
