What a great critical thinking question!

In my opinion, if this was the first time I ever saw these two interact, I probably would have done a small intervention at the 35 seconds. An interruption definitely at the 52 second mark and probably not put them back together until I had more info on the Brindle, including known interactions (if any) with other dogs, cats, kids, squirrels etc. and, a behavior modification plan was going to be implemented. In some cases dogs can not self-regulate and it is sometimes up to us to regulate the interactions. By giving them a few seconds of break time, it can help. I have used “break” to teach dogs to self-regulate on their own during mild play. By interrupting play every 3 minutes and re-enforcing it heavily, for example, most dogs usually learn to stop themselves since it has been reinforced. To be fair, I have also seen it not work on highly focused/highly aroused dogs during intense play. In the discussion case, my observation (and opinion) is that Brindle was easily interrupted by the lights coming on, videographers movements and the beeping noise, which hints to me that the Brindle in not that focused on the BD or serious in these moments, and may benefit from a “break” type cue eventually.

I am curious as to what others think, too!
