📣 Listen to Your CATCH Lessons

It is easy to have your lessons read out loud using built-in tools in your web browser. You do not need special software, and most options work on phones, tablets, and computers.

Choose the browser and device you are using below, then follow the step-by-step instructions. You can listen to lessons while reading along, slow the voice down, or pause anytime.

If you want the simplest experience, Microsoft Edge offers the most features and the clearest controls across devices. If you already have Speechify, or want to get it, instructions for that are below the information for web browser tools.

Best for phones and tablets: Microsoft Edge on iPhone, iPad, or Android gives the smoothest listening experience.

Quick Setup Before You Start

Before turning on audio, a few small steps will make listening smoother.

  1. Open the lesson or topic you want to listen to. Audio works page by page, not across an entire phase or course.
  2. Make sure the page is fully loaded before starting audio.
  3. Scroll slightly so the text is clearly visible on your screen.
  4. Use headphones if you have them. This improves clarity and reduces distractions.
  5. If audio does not start right away, pause for a moment and try again.
  6. If something does not work, try a different browser listed below. Each one behaves a little differently.

Once you are ready, follow the steps for your browser below.

Web Browsers

Safari (iPhone / iPad / Apple Devices)

  1. Open your course and select the section you’d like to read.
  2. Look at the far right or the far left (depending on your device) of the URL bar for the E-Reader icon (it looks like a rectangle with two lines under it).
  3. Tap the icon → choose “Listen to Page.”
  4. You can also choose “Show Reader” for a clean view of the text (optional).
  5. Use the pause/play options as needed.

🔎 Note: Safari does not offer translation options.

Microsoft Edge (PC, iPhone/iPad, Android)

  1. Open your course and select the section you’d like to read.
  2. Look for the E-Reader icon (a large “A” with sound waves) in the URL bar.
    • If you don’t see the icon on PC: Right-click anywhere on the page → More Tools → Read Aloud.
    • If you don’t see the icon on mobile: Tap and hold anywhere → scroll and select Read Aloud.
    • For Android: After you have navigated to the lesson you want to read you will see a book with a sound icon next to the url. Click on that to have the page open in a new window then click on the A with sound waves at the top.
    • For Android: Edge also has a translator if you prefer a different language. Clicking on the small “a” with a translation icon at the top once you have opened the new window will allow you to choose another language.

On Computer (PC/Mac)

  • A play/ pause/ forward/ back toolbar will appear at the top of the screen.
  • Use the Voice Options dropdown to:
    • Adjust speed
    • Change tone/voice

On Mobile (iPhone/Android)

You can:

  • Change speed
  • Change tone/voice
  • Translate the page into another language

⚠️ Bug tip for iPhone users: If audio doesn’t start, close the tab and reopen. Or tap the three lines at the bottom → Read Aloud (or Translate).

Mozilla Firefox (PC / Android 5.0 or higher - not available on iPhone)

  • Open your course and select the section you’d like to read.
  • Look for the E-Reader icon in the URL bar (rectangle with a line inside it).
  • Click to start audio.
  • Use the controls to adjust speed.

⚠️ Note: Firefox voices sound a bit more robotic than Safari or Edge.

Using E-Reader in Chrome (PC Users)

  • Open your course and go to the section you’d like to read.
  • Right-click anywhere on the page and choose “Open in Reading Mode.”
  • This strips the page down to large, clean text (like a digital book). – Note: audio function is only enabled if your PC has accessibility enabled on your device.
