BEET Recap | Facial Expressions are Similar in Humans & Dogs
Dr. Gregory Berns ????????pioneered the neuroscience research using awake, trained dogs in an MRI ???? machine to discover many things, including the fact that dogs’ emotional lives mirror our own. He’s got a couple great books out now, and many YouTube videos which showcase his work.
While we can’t know exactly what is happening in anyone else’s experience, let alone those of another species, we can make some general statements like,
“If a dog looks happy, he’s probably happy!” and “If a dog looks annoyed, he’s probably annoyed.”
Understanding that dogs have fewer facial muscles helps us connect the dots between human facial expressions and canine ones.
