  • Body Language Breakdown Part 3 – Phunky and Lido – Why the Change?

????Learning about the best way to introduce dogs to one other is valuable. When you do it right, stress can be avoided and that can make the difference between a long friendship and a short fight.

In our first post, we looked at Phunky and Lido as they met INDOORS. In our second video, we looked at the same two dogs OUTDOORS. @bmacwatt @jan @wagswithwarren brought up some great points and also asked some excellent follow up questions which we should explore together.

    • What do you see as major differences between Phunky’s behavior indoors vs. outdoors?
    • What do you think is having an impact on his emotional state?

Bruce mentioned perhaps it helped that the dogs got a chance to get information in the first meeting.
Jan and Warren mentioned perhaps Phunky felt more “trapped” or limited indoors.
➡What do you think? Or what questions are still in your mind? ⬅

????All of your ideas and questions are welcomed! Everyone feel free to jump into the conversation and get your name on our BLB Breakdown writeup that is coming later this month!

I keep wondering about what the rest of the room was like in the first video. Is it possible that, aside from having less space indoors, a room with more stimuli from people/animals/objects could also have contributed to Phunky being more reserved than in a fenced patch of grass?

Good thinking @wagswithwarren – I bet you are right; Phunky is a more sensitive dog and the room indoors was full of people WATCHING THEM. That had to contribute to his discomfort. Maybe the slippery floor too? @david Had Phunky ever been in that room before, with or without other people?

I can’t remember if that was his first day in the room or not, but I think it was. This was also most likely the first day the two dogs met.

Do you all want to jump in on #3 and add your thoughts before I post the discussion David and I had on these clips? I’d love to know your thoughts on the comparison in Phunky’s emotions in the two different places – and all the factors that may be contributing.

I don’t see in the first video where the environment is really a factor. I’m sure the environment is a factor and i agree with warren that it would be interesting to know what was going on the room before they actually met. We’re they on leash first and then the leashes came off or were they introduced with leashes off. Did students in classroom interact with phunky? Based on video i see that phunky has kind of tuned out the environment and is focused on lido. Without knowing any other info i would say that phunky’s reactions are based on interaction with lido and not so much the environment Again just based on what i am seeing in video

I guess it’s more about the overall change between the two videos… so what do you think are the biggest factors in Phunky’s behavior change from indoors to outdoors? @bmacwatt
