WOWZA! What a great chat we had with Dave Shade. His trainers see 100 private lessons every week with 60% of them being reactive dog leash issues. He dropped some fabulous tips for trainers (and business owners!) one helping dogs and their people. I’ll be posting some video after it’s processed… but meanwhile, jump in if you were there, and please share what you learned or observed!

There were so many great little nuggets in everything he shared. Mine was the brilliant idea of using 5pm as an optimal training time, outside a building where people were simply walking to their cars. What a great way to set up for predictable reinforcement opportunities (when the dog is ready for that stage!)

There have been so many requests to see the interview with Dave Shade in its entirety, we’ve decided to go ahead and post the whole hour! Check it out and then please do share your thoughts in this thread.

Here’s the link to watch Dave talk about LLW and Reactive Rosie the Doberman.

@Catherine-I was so happy to be there! I was actually walking a dog when it started, in rainy Illinois, so I was happy we were muted and no video of participants. Thankfully, I finished up the walk with Charlie and was able to listen to the rest in the car and when I got home.

I enjoyed hearing that he didn’t like Gentle Leaders himself, as I don’t use them successfully myself and much prefer a front clip harness. I think it’s cool that he’s veteran and chooses to train his dogs in a positive reinforcement way and that he graduated from CATCH! How awesome!

The work with the Doberman, Rosie, and her “mom” was my favorite part. They did a great job with that dog! You can tell how much she loves her owner, all the check-ins, when the camera and trainer came closer to her zone.

Thanks for this amazing opportunity and it worked well with my crazy schedule to be able to jump on at 2pm CST, while I was finishing up afternoon training walks.

Yay! Glad you could be there while on the go, @Bernerlabreclectus Paula! Yes I agree with everything you said – he has such an opportunity to lead by example with his background and commitment to positive reinforcement, fear-free training. SOOOO GOOOOOD!
