DE: How Creative is Your Dog? (And, how QUICK are you?)
Have you ever played around with capturing novel behavior from your dog? Try this: get out a big box (something sturdy enough to hold your dog’s weight, but that you don’t mind if they claw or bite it.) And try playing 101 Things to do with a Box.
This is a game where you mark and reward (click and treat) the first time your dog does something new. Don’t click for the same behavior twice. We recommend having a start and stop cue for this game. I say, “Show me something” to get started and end with “That’s all” and a kibble scatter. This shows Stella’s playfulness and instinct to hunt and catch. Please excuse the messy house, this is the first time I have captured her spontaneous play on video. She will also randomly run across the room and jump into her pile of toys, root around then choose one. She does this in moments of joy which also bring me joy to see her so happy. I then get on the floor with her to continue the play time. Her toys have names and she can retrieve the correct one when asked for about 8 of them. She is 8 years old. This occurs more frequently in winter when she does not want to spend a lot of time outside.

Right, @RADS ! It made me think of the story of Chaser -the border collie who knew over a thousand words… Have you read that? Great book. There are some youtube videos, too…
