David and I had a chance to go over the BLB videos of Phunky and Lido together and we nerded out! ???? We talked about them for almost half an hour – because, well, we LOVE this stuff! ????

If you want to watch our entire breakdown you can find it ▶ HERE. ◀ (Caveat: there was an issue with Zoom recording audio so it’s a bit out of sync at times – but still worthy for the content, we think!)

If you prefer a “highlight reel”???? – here are some key moments in our discussion. Check out the short video below.

We’d love some feedback – what do you think of the ideas we shared?

What I loved about your discussion is how you guys discussed the subtle body movements or the small details. I usually take a overall view of what’s going on and look for the common signs such as whale eye, yawn, shake off, etc. I sometimes struggle with reading body language because I always wonder if I am putting to much opinion as to what the dog’s are actually thinking. I think discussing the small details helps with interpreting what the dogs are actually thinking. As a trainer myself, I probably need to pay more attention to specifics. Great topic

Thanks @bmacwatt – it’s so fun to take the time to break this stuff down. There’s nothing better for that than studying video. That is what has helped me the most, to see the subtle stuff in real time.

The other tip I can give: whenever I’m not sure what a dog is signaling, I look at the OTHER dog. Because, generally speaking, most dogs are fluent in body language (I say “most” because there are dogs for whom deficits exist) and they are able to read whatever I may be missing. If they say, “Yeah, no thanks.” Or “Hey, that was rude”, I usually believe them. Their opinion matters the most to me.

It’s like dating, right? You might thing your friend is a perfect match for your sister, but she might be like: “Are you out of your ever-lovin’ mind!?” Her opinion matters if you are trying to set up a second encounter. ????
