    Them’s some sexy mud boots!

I had a whistlepig under my shed last year and my critters were in a bit of a tizzy, not to mention a lethal whistlepig-killing dog was about to visit. So I poured water into the space laced with fragrant peppermint oil (when he wasn’t there), filled it in with dirt and rocks, watered in more peppermint fragrance and then laid boughs of sage where the hole once was. Thankfully the dude didn’t return.

What is a whistlepig? Ground squirrel? Marmot?

I still don’t know what was under there. We went back out awhile ago and she was much less interested in the space, so I covered it up with some timbers. I think she chased whatever it was under there in the first place – I doubt it will be back, but thanks for the tip about peppermint!

Right!? Can’t deny her the happiness!! Plus, I can’t help but thinking she KNOWS I’d rather take her to the lake than give her a bath… so off we go!
