I hope this is ok to ask. I’m still learning I would like to ease my mind.

Someone is supposed to watch my two dogs soon and she has two dogs of her own.

It will be at her house. She now told me that she will keep all the dogs separated because one of her dog is what she says aggressive against other big dogs. She said she doesn’t want her dogs to meet mine and to just keep her dogs away from mine in her house.

Is that a good idea or would it be better if they could meet safely outside? I’m a bit nervous her dog will mange to run up to my dog’s one day. She said that her dog always snaps at dogs and she immediately pulls her dog away. I’m not sure I still feel comfortable leaving my dogs at her house. Are there any suggestions I can give her?

OOh. This is a tough one as I know good pet sitters are not always available, especially during the holidays. You know what’s best for your dogs. And you know how much you trust this person. If you are getting a “gut-check”, it’s worth listening to, in my opinion. Depending on how much damage the other dog has experience giving, this could be disasterous if management fails. And unless she lives with no other humans, and maybe even so, management eventually breaks down. You asked for tips, though, so here’s mine: is she willing to muzzle train her dog and have it wear a basket muzzle the entire time your dog is there? (the basket muzzles like Baskerville allow dogs to drink and pant – she could remove it for meals and then put it back on.)

ThanK you for your answer. I will ask her. I actually don’t know her. She actually doesn’t professional pet sit.

I just have trouble finding someone affordable for two dogs.

She said her dog has never bitten a dog but he would show an aggressive behaviour towards other dog’s and that she won’t let him near other dog’s because she doesn’t trust him.

I also would like to help that dog.

I will ask her about the muzzle and I will think about maybe finding someone else. Thank you!

@KTinaN Kristina, best of luck in this situation. It can be really hard to find someone trustworthy. The Rover app has individual pet sitters and ratings which may be helpful. When I was a shelter worker, a lot of our really savvy dog handlers also did pet sitting on the side – people would often call for references and we’d refer each other, so that may be another affordable option. I love your willingness to help the woman with her dog; maybe you can work out a barter system, if she can show exactly how she plans on keeping your dogs safe, and if that set up makes you comfortable. Keep us posted and I hope you are able to have a lovely get-away. We all need those!
