    Happy Easter!

    We are prepping for a scent work trial this coming weekend and I had the idea to combine the holiday with practice time!

    Remington (hound dog) has a lovely nose hold alert when he is on odor.

    Gunner (Am staff mix) has a much more subtle indication and I have to read his changes of behavior a lot more than I do with his brother. Do you notice the subtle “thing” he does once he’s found the right egg?

    @Alexis What a DELIGHT to watch these boys do their thing. They are so different in the way they work. I think I see what you are referencing, but I want to give others a chance to watch and chime in. Since it’s Monday morning, it may be a minute. 😀

    Kudos for working your dogs on this task. It’s so enriching for them. And fun to watch you work – thanks for sharing this. My smile is broad.

    @Alexis

    Awe! They are fun to watch and it ALWAYS amazes me what dogs can do with their nose.

    I love watching them both. Had to watch the clips multiple times, but Gunner does a definite nose-boop target twice on the egg. I like it! I think he’s excited and showing you, subdued…

    Thank you for sharing! I’ve been told by a few trainers to get my Lab into nosework, but I’m not certain where to start.

    Any suggestions would be great. Not sure I want to join a group or see other people/compete in it, so solo exploration would be more fun.

      I teach mantrailing for “nose work”. It is like search and rescue only no one needs to be actually rescued! You can also think of it as hide and seek! I bet you and your lab would be good at teaching, learning and finding! ????

      No points, no ribbons, just fun!

    Nice work and nice set up for them to be challenged and be successful!

    I see a double back, double check and double nose tap! Was the nose tap behavior the first indication you rewarded? Did it start as something else and ended up being this? Did he just do it on his own? I am super curious!!

    Thanks for sharing!
