Oh boy. Mister Old Riddick One Ear (cat) landed himself in the ER yesterday. He and I were there all day, poor guy. He’s home now, but as a consequence, the pups were bonkers with pent up energy last night. With the exception of Toki, pictured here, who was literally crying in this photo because I was 5 feet away from him and not petting him. We’ll have a day cut out for us today, for sure! ???? What’s your go-to for high energy dogs on a day you know you’ll be tied up nursing a loud and demanding cat? ????

Oh no! I hope your sweet kitty will be feeling a lot better soon.

One way to occupy the dogs’ time is to have a plethora of stuffed food toys available, as long as there’s no competitiveness over these goodies. Maybe a few cardboard boxes stuffed with toys and goodies for them to shred?

Ah yes, they do love those activities. I’m hoping to get them outside additionally today for good nature time but I don’t know if it’ll happen. Currently preparing 2,800 frozen stuffed Kongs and pulling out my stash of Amazon boxes…what a weekend this will be ????

    Poor kitty!

I’m a huge fan of scatter feeding in the yard, providing it is safe to do so (no competitive eaters or chemicals). I’ve also found that about 10min of mental work, playing training games, goes a long way toward helping dogs feel “seen”. It doesn’t have to be a big deal. I usually take a few handfuls of their dinner and play-train some basic cues. They feel like rockstars – then I dump the rest out in the yard for a shared meal. 🙂
