Guess who got to sleep over with me?
Remember, I mentioned this adorable mini dachshund, Cosmo, in a puppy pushups video I shared last month?
He is now 17-18 weeks old. Cosmo was a wonderful little guest at my house for the weekend. I don’t normally offer boarding, or board and train anymore. However, the owners were in a bind and he’s a bit young to do a normal pet sit with, even an overnight pet sit.
So, I threw caution to the wind (dang it, I LOVE HIM!!!) and we did a reverse meet and greet in my home a couple of weeks ago. I let them visit and they got to meet Stella (in her cage, my Eclectus parrot). He also loved my boyfriend! So we all decided it was a good situation.
I’m in puppy withdrawal here this morning. The little guy slept through the night, in his crate in my bedroom, and aside from some barking that lasted 5-10 minutes the first night (for which I decided he needed to go #2, and I was right to take him out)…he even slept in until 8 am!
He met my other two female elderly dachshund clients (my dog walking clients), because the owner has become a close friend. She wanted to meet him so badly, so I bought an XPen and we did an introduction with him inside and then outside. But they were very non-challenge about meeting him. I took care to manage him a bit, picking him up and redirecting him when necessary, also made sure any food items were off the floor and just let them check each other out. The friendliest of the two ladies was just OK with him and preferred to hang with her mama, but the pickier one let him sniff her and hang around her a bit more. We took a walk together and shared the same sniffs, too.
I also worked on general obedience, manners and tricks with him during our stay. It was so fun! This is the first dog I haven’t been ready for the owners to pick up when they returned. It helps that he’s a training client of mine. Most of the other dogs were adolescent or older and either walking or sitting clients.
I’m choosy in only taking dogs I know well, they have to be clients of mine, because of my parrot especially. My boyfriend commented that he was so much fun and he’s gonna miss the little guy!
Here’s some highlights…
