Hazel’s Mixed Breeds Revealed – Check Out the DNA Results
????You guys did an awesome job discussing and guessing Hazel’s breed mix. If you still want to check the original post to see the guesses and the photos – it is here. And now… the results are in! ???? Check out the photos below to compare to the photo of Hazel and see if “it all adds up” to your eye.
- The most prominent breed which several of you guessed is the American Pit Bull Terrier ????
- The second one – no one guessed! It’s Bluetick Coonhound. ????That was a surprise for us, too, but it totally makes sense.
- The third one was guessed by a couple of people: Boxer ????
I can tell you that this mix definitely reflects Hazel’s behavior and personality! Thanks for playing the game, this was really fun. ????

It would be fun to keep the games going. If you’ve got a breed photo we can use and guess – or a DNA test on mixed breeds, please do start a new thread in our Breed Discovery channel. (Not everyone all at once, though! ???? ) If you’d rather, you can email me the photo and answers and I can post it, as another option.

Hi @david Just curious, which brand of dna did you use for Hazel? ???? Thinking about testing Wai in the future. ???? The shelter told us he was a Basnji Hound terrier mix. But I was thinking they were just saying that because of his coat color and pattern. ????????♀️ I’m thinking he could be American Staffordshire Terrior mixed in, just don’t know what hound. Or if it is a completely different mix. So many possibilities! ????

I’ll answer on David’s behalf as it may be a second before he can reply. He used Embark.
Of all the options out there, Embark seems to be the most reliable. There was a recent article about some of the issues with a few of the tests available. I liked Embark’s results and response to the “investigation.”
If you do get a test done, PLEASE create a game for us in Breed Discovery! It’s so fun to guess!
