I have 3 dogs, one is my retired service dog. Another is my fear based reactive Great Dane, and lastly but not least is my fetch obsessed lab/mix. I’m looking into getting truck titles for my dogs, and I’m still studying at Catch. I’ve recently had a really saddening experience with two other trainers in my area; they publicly bashed the fact that I’m getting a certification, and my positive reinforcement methods. They told me I’d never succeed unless I used extremely aversive tools and methods on every single dog. They told me my methods and marketing was a lie, and that it wasn’t possible to train big bad aggressive dogs with “cookies”. On top of it all they didn’t even let me defend myself. So it means a lot to me that I’ve been invited into this group. I can’t wait to discuss dog, training, and real life experiences!

@Koral Welcome!! You will absolutely love this community. I love reading all the support people give each other. What a great picture of your pups! I love how you describe them all. I am sorry you had experiences with people telling you you have to train a certain way. Congrats to joining CATCH and getting educated. Everything I studied was eye opening to me!!! I am definitely one of those people that like to know why and CATCH gives you those answers:) Welcome again, can’t wait to see more pics. I worked with a couple Great Danes at my daycare. Sweet pups!

Thank you! I’m hoping to make lots of great friends, and I feel so welcomed already. Fortunately for me, my advisor at CATCH was able to give me lots of tips on dealing with negative competitors. I can’t wait to hear more about how others handle training situations. It’s so cool that we have this app to pick each other’s brains and discuss how we’d work through a specific case.

That’s exactly what I was thinking! Whatever motivates the dog works for me.

Exactly! We don’t expect people to go to work every day for nothing but a “Good job!” from their boss, do we?

Welcome, Koral. I am so glad you are here in DD. You will find nothing but support and encouragement, along with great, science-based, solid solutions. Thank you for sharing your story; and I’m so sorry those people were so completely unprofessional. It says loads about who they are. Thanks too, for sharing the good support you have found here and at CATCH. It’s great you have introduced yourself and we look forward to getting to know you and your dogs more here in DD and helping any way we can.

It makes me so happy and excited to hear how open and understand y’all are. I might still be a tad unsure of how to use this wonderful app but I’m sure I’ll figure it out with time. I’ve noticed a lot of the discussions were about things that I’ve thought about myself in real life situations. It’s so nice to be able to contribute to the conversation without the negativity!
