I’m Back
Posted by Zane Brown on July 11, 2023 at 5:30 pmHi everyone. I am sorry for my absence. I realize it’s been a while since I’ve posted here. A lot has happened since I’ve logged in but I want to get back on here.
I’ve decided to slow my dog training business down a little bit and keep my client minimal for now. I need to iron out many of the processes and systems. I burned myself out on that and other things. I want to make things more efficient (and ultimately profitable) so I can get back to enjoying dog training.
Looking forward to checking in with everyone!

Welcome back @zaneb This is a great reminder sometimes we need to reset and take some time for our own selves!!

Welcome back, @zaneb !!! We are so glad you’re here.
I understand and totally empathize with burn-out. You’re awesome to know your limits and be your own advocate!
Just happy to see you checking in, Zane! ????

I hope you’re able to iron things out so you can get back to training before long. In the meantime, we’re glad to see you back here again @zaneb !

So glad to have you around again, @zaneb ! You bring a lot to our community. I hope you find some rest and recovery as you reset your goals and processes. Serving humans and dogs is tough work. Thanks for the reminder to take time for self-care and visioning. If you want to talk about it more, I’m sure these topics will get lots of attention!

Thanks everyone for the support. I am very thankful to be part of such a supportive group. I’ve definitely started outlining some of my goals (at least in my head haha). I’ve put up what they call a “splash page” (if I am not mistaken) for my website announcing my hiatus. This is going to give me some to think and get some perspective.
One thing I know that I need to do is really deep dive and discover who my ideal clients are to me. I just sort of let the business run me for the past year in the hopes of making some money, but that’s not sustainable. Another thing for sure is re-establish some cost effective systems that streamline things. I have been thinking that at some point in the future I may need to work with a one-to-one business coach for a little bit to revamp everything. But perhaps not.
Anyway, has anyone else ever experienced this? I really enjoy dog training but if I am going to continue it I need to make it more sustainable.

It sounds like you’re doing a great thing for yourself! We need to be kind to ourselves, and that can be hard to know when, how much to cut back and what we need, or want!
I’ve experienced the same thing while working to transition my 3-pronged solo dog walking/petsitting and training business toward the training! I began as a walker/sitter, got certified as a dog trainer and WHAM! along came COVID…thankfully, I still had clients who needed walks and Petsits while I grew as a trainer. But, it got so busy with walks that I felt burned out ! I couldn’t train as much as I wanted and found myself exhausted all of the time.
In April,I did an online 2-day seminar workshop via Zoom that changed my way of thinking…it was all about finding YOU IDEAL clients, scheduling so that there was still time in your day for YOU, growing and pricing packages and about everything else you can imagine. I’m not sure it’s OK to post their info, but I can message you if not. I’ll wait to see what you think and what others say.
It gave me courage also to admit that a few clients were taking advantage of my good will, and eventually, after 3 strikes, I had the strength to fire one (yep, she wanted me to be her caregiver, not joking) and let the other one go, with notice.
Sadly, it is never about the dog! The dogs are the BEST part of this job!!!
It is the hardest thing, admitting we have limits and accepting burnout. Please know you’re doing what’s best to get back to what makes you feel good, Zane!

Is it OK to share the resource of that 2-day seminar here? Or should I message instead. Thank you!

Sharing a resource is welcomed, so long as it is not a sales-pitch or self-promotion. Thanks for checking in, @bernerlabreclectus ! You can see all our community guiding principles and rules here.

Thanks @catherine !
It’s not a sales pitch and most graduates of CATCH already know about dogbiz.com, but it was there that they had this 2-day webinar. It was incredible!
