Intentions for 2023?! Joy, Bliss and Spirit are Brainstorming!
Posted by Catherine Comden on January 2, 2023 at 10:24 amI LOVE ???? new starts, reflections and setting intentions. A bright, shiny New Year is a great time to “take stock” and play with ideas for the future. ????
What are some of your ideas for making 2023 the best year ever?
It can be something as simple as doing one “shaping” game each day with your dog… or promising to feed “bowl-free” in 2023… Or it can be as complex as trying a new sport and earning a ribbon or title.
We’re super excited about what’s coming up this year… and I asked my girls to tell me about their resolutions…. Clearly we need to work on the topic. ????
So, help us out – what do you want to do more of this year? And, how can we help!?

@catherine i love how each dog is really talking dog language. When I read their bubbles I can imagine them saying it:) Adorable photo. I really hope to enjoy an Aussie my future one day. For the upcoming year I plan on meeting my dogs needs more. I just feel I am always helping other dogs- and things got a little too busy and I need to carve out more time for them. More enrichment and ditch their bowls at dinner and hopefully breakfast later down the lane!!

Ah – @pawsup I totally get the whole, pay attention to my dogs goal. My poor dogs have definitely been “last on the list” in years past!
I’m definitely upping my food puzzle game this year. Spent an undisclosed amount at Chewy.com yesterday. haha! Please share your ideas on DD – and if you are looking for more ideas, scroll back through the Enrichment Channel – we have a lot already there, especially with DIY feeding ideas.
-
Thank you!! Will do! I love Chewy – so convenient it easily adds up. Haha:)

RE: Chewy- yes it does. I set a limit for myself before I got on there … because OOH SHINY THINGS! DOG STUFF!! haha

Also – do you mean that you’re going to work toward 1 meal a day with the doggos? I’ve been thinking about that – I know the science says it’s better for them (me too, I guess!) but… ooh, that’s a big shift from where we are now, which is that I’m basically throwing food… always! With a puppy in the house!

No not one meal. My Berner would think the world has come to an end. ???????? I just want to make eating an enrichment idea instead of eating from a slow feeder.
-
Ah – so moving from a complicated bowl to more enriching puzzles. Say more on this, @pawsup – what kinds of ideas do you have?
-
I started snuffle mats, Kong Wobbles, puzzles, hide and seek with kibble , training session and simple throw it in the grass and let them find it…
-
These are great! It’s so fun watching my lil 10wk old pup figure out how to “ditch the dish” … I think there’s some value here for increasing frustration threshhold. She used to just get so frustrated that dinner wasn’t INABOWLRIGHTNOW. Yesterday she was able to start to use her sniffer effectively in the grass… I think the older dogs were definitely helpful as she was clearly modeling them.

For 2023 year like you guys I want to put my dogs first ( which has been hard with the new tiny human running around the house). I also want to get them out on runs more and attend more races. Last year was pitiful to say the least. My dogs love being on the trail, I think this year we can make that happen and more!
-
Oh – celebrating the tiny human with you! And wow; totally understand the priority shift and the desire for balance. Keep us posted! @mtnwolfpup

Although I can’t directly participate in this conversation with personal dogs and resolutions, I am hoping AS A TRAINER to have better “conversations” with their dogs through coaching them with enrichment, sniffaris and offering their dog choices (advocacy).
Thanks to being part of Digging Dogs community, I feel I can reach these goals in 2023!
I love that you want to spend more time with your dogs!!! They deserve it (and so do you!)

@bernerlabreclectus I LOVE this goal!
