It’s that time of year again! We are big hikers with our Berner. Our golden would rather stay home and sleep:) So now that tick season is here, I was wondering if anyone else had tips to keep ticks away. I learned from a person with Newfoundlands when she gets done a hike, she goes over her dogs with a lint roller- sticky tape roller. I now do this every time we get back to the car from a hike. It’s part of my hiking bag, I roll it over Mack’s hair, legs, underbelly, around ears! It’s great it any ticks are walking around, since it takes time to latch on. Of course when home we do a good brush and he is protected with frontline, but I thought this is such a great idea. I have caught one on the tape. So I wanted to share with everyone else and was wondering if there are any other cool tricks out there??

Oh, the lint roller is an awesome idea! I have never heard of this technique! But one that is obvious.

I know people who use double-sided tape around their ankles/ pant legs, to catch them.

I prefer to avoid heavy tick areas after having one latch on me 8 years ago- yuck! Against my preferences of using chemicals, I spray deet on my clothes if I have to be in an infested area.

I am always checking myself and dogs when I am likely to encounter ticks.

Hi @pawsup , in addition to a flea/tick treatment, you can use Wondercide spray to add an extra layer of protection, to keep ticks away while hiking.

@pawsup Such a great idea! I bought a bunch of lint rollers but haven’t cracked them open yet. LOVE IT!

My Berner was bitten by a tick as a pup, so they treated him for Lyme…(??) I think, at the time. But he turned out fine. It is darned impossible to find ticks once they’ve made their way under that coat.

    Great discussion!

IDEA: I Love the idea about double sided tape on the ankles…Maybe that could work on harnesses & collars?????

Ticks are horrible for us this year! I’ve removed so many from myself and the dogs. ????

I’ve got Seresto collars on the girls and have them on Nexxgard as well. Ticks like to climb tall grasses and bushes and drop down/grab on as you pass, so ankle wraps won’t catch them all.

Daily inspections are part of our routine… but some of these buggers are so tiny I can’t find them until they’ve fed!

I’ve lived in many states with ticks, but Oklahoma wins this one. UGH!
