  • Looking for Ideas for Topics to Present at a Retail Location

    Hi Everyone,

I reached out to a Pet brand and heard back from the Senior VP. He will be in from California next week and would like to meet with me. They are opening up a new retail location. Not sure what the logistics are so I am thinking of offering to do some informational talks at the new location. I have a few ideas for topics but would love suggestions. I’m looking for something that is engaging, not too complicated to present, and that pet parents can easily follow and go home with something they can apply. This will not be a training session. Also, I am looking for topics other than the socialization and Separation/Isolation Issues.

    Thanks in advance.

    WOW! How exciting, @doggonespecial !

My first thought is: Building a great relationship with your dog. You could give 3-5 tips on how to do that (a bit about body language, a bit about feeding for good behavior, avoiding punishment, etc.)

I’m looking forward to seeing other people’s great ideas for you. Keep us posted when you give the talks!

    Great stuff, Amy @doggonespecial

Lock in on what people ALWAYS have questions about. Leash walking is a hugely popular topic because it’s often a challenge in many different ways. If it’s puppies you’ll be talking about introducing them to the equipment and starting off right. If it’s teenage and adult dogs there is so much great stuff to cover!

@doggonespecial wow this is exciting!! I agree with @catherine and @david . I was thinking maybe something on kids with dogs. Being respectful to the dogs body language and space. Also maybe something on meeting your dogs needs- I think people are surprised all that is involved besides just food, water and walks. Keep us posted!!

I second @pawsup thoughts about adding something for the small folks in the family! Maybe something like, “Do you speak Doglish?” or “Doglish as a Second Language”? I’ve found that teaching the kids of the family how to be good dog body language observers/translators can be a hook to getting their parents into the learning mode too!

OMD YES – “Meeting Your Dog’s Needs” @pawsup – PERFECT topic that would attract pet parents and give them a good start on seeing their dogs as DOGS and not as “fur babies”.

Just kidding here…. but the chat could start with, “Open your dog’s mouth and take a look at those pearlies….this is not your kid.” ????
