Hi! I took Starla to see a behavioral vet today. She is 11 years old and has been on the same dose of Prozac for 8 years. She has a history of fear reactivity but up until recently, she’s been great with the help of management, behavioral mod, and meds. Within the last year or so, she has developed noise phobias and increased nervous behavior. My senior cat is in cognitive decline and loudly vocalize constantly (we are seeking help for him too) which is a new trigger for her. That said, we got some great information and a med change from the vet today. This video is for body language buffs. She had been in the office for an hour already and was still very nervous…check out all her “tells.” Poor girl. She’s been struggling lately.

Aw. Poor Starla!! I’m glad she has you to help her. It’s fascinating how the right meds can change everything – I hope you are able to see her relax! You both have been through so much this year.

Sending all the pawsitive thoughts. ????

I know, she is really struggling. But thankfully, the behaviorist is top notch! And also, thankfully, Starla trusts Sean and me and finds comfort with us. We are starting her on Librela (injection for osteoarthritis in dogs) next week, as the vet mentioned there is a link between orthopedic pain and noise phobias. Very interested to see if there is a benefit!

THAT MAKES SO MUCH SENSE!! I hope that she is comfortable soon – and what a keen thought. There are so many things that can exacerbate noise sensitivity. For Bliss, it was losing Joy… her anxiety spiked for several months. She’s finally chillin’ out a bit, but sheesh! It’s been a ride. So glad that your excellent vet behaviorist is looking for the root cause. Lovely.

I’ve heard of that possible link, too, @LisaOMy . I sure hope the new stuff will help your precious Starla. Can’t wait to read updates. ????
