Our Wise Wolf This Week is – Paula Mrazek!
This week’s Wise Wolf Award winner is none other than ???? Paula Mrazek ???? Congratulations @Bernerlabreclectus !
You’ve shared some excellent insight with the community this week, from your input on @Pkoh post Barking Dog Whenever Out of House to the great points you made when responding to @ZaneB Interesting Question from a Client and @Marcybel Consent Test, where you shared your own experience in a similar situations.
Keep up the great contributions – your tips are so valuable for everyone! Also, as a pet sitter and walker, too, I see so many owners in the initial meeting that are surprised when I don’t run up to their pet and throw myself at it or paw them. I explain that it’s always important to let the animal come to a new person. I don’t even reach for them when they do come, eventually almost all the dogs or cats will end up near me by the end of the visit, asking for some kind of attention (even non-physical). I always respect animals for the individuals they are.
I love to break up treats super-small and either throw them on the ground so they have to use their nose to “find it” in the grass. I feel like, if they are actively sniffing through their nose, they usually aren’t barking. I would start somewhere away from the trigger zone and play a few rounds of the “find it”, as long as dog isn’t barking. Mark and reward with an even higher value treat, if goes well.
