???? Recently I’ve been watching some AKC videos and I stumbled upon the Samoyed. Now, both MC’s had said the name differently.

One was sammy-ed and the other was sam-oi-ed.

And now, I’m confused! ???? I am not very familiar with this breed. Is there a right way to say it? Or is both acceptable?

This is a fun question @WaiThePuaPup Keala! I’m glad you brought it here. I used to say

sah-MOYED (rhymes with annoyed) … then a few decades ago I met my first one and the owner said SAMMY-ed (rhymes with spammy Fred) so I started using that… somewhere along the way I met conformation people who hung out with breeders and they called them Sammies (for fun) and sa-MOI-ed (for fancy), so I switched.

But this “how to pronounce it” site says I’m doing it wrong, and that the correct pronunciation is:

SAM-uh-yed (rhymes with JAM uh bread). They make a strong case, citing Russian phonetics.

Whatever ya call them, aren’t they beautiful dogs?! They are a fun breed – a spitzy-all-purpose in a moderate size floofy package.

Sam -oi-ed is always what I heard. But I feel like sometimes people say another way. Same with the cane corso – I hear people say that different ways. Good question!

@pawsup Yes me too, I’ve heard it mostly Sam-oi-ed too. And yup same with me and the Cane Corso, lots of different ways too! ????

Yes, Cane Corso too -that one is pronounced KAHN-ay COR-so, by those in the know…

    And how about this one:

    Have a grATE – DAY-n (lol – just playin’)

    ????
