Pup tent!!!
I wasn’t certain where to put this, but today, on a morning visit/walk with my friends, Charlie & Abbey, I decided to bring out a little pop-up kiddie tent and see what they thought about it.
A little about the pups: Charlie is a 5-year old mixed breed and I’ve been his daily walker since he was 5 months old. Abbey is his new little sister, a 5 month old Catahoula leopard dog/Border collie mix. Both are very curious and up to trying new things, so this was an experiment.
I’m including some photos. I fully expected Abbey to hop into it first, just her personality. But they surprised me. Charlie was more curious about this new tent that I introduced to him first as a pancake in the bag, treating them both for curiosity. After that, I opened it slowly. I placed it in the head and went to get my treats (Turkey jerky bits!) and was going to crawl into it myself…but Charlie beat me to it!
The rest is: Charlie stick his head in, (treat on tent floor), then paws, paid, went in it (I was careful so that it didn’t roll over on it’s side…it comes with stakes, but I didn’t use them yet. Both are small enough dogs and once Abbey saw the fun and treats, she quickly conducted her own investigation. Lots of tiny jerky bits made them love the tent. ❤️
Funny: we afterwards went for our walk and left the tent up. When we came back, Charlie saw it and immediately growled, then remembered he liked the tent (“good boy’s” from me and treat treat for changing his mind!)
I thought I’d ask who else experimented with their dogs with new fandangled items they might never have seen before and reinforces for resilience and good associations? It’s fun. ????
