Moving @Peggy ‘s comment here from the other thread so I can find it later!

I was wondering if any one has been able to train a dog to never have a leash aggressive experience again? In my experience the dogs get a lot better in some or even most situations but will have set backs, is that known to be normal with leash aggression and that it just doesn’t really have a permanent “fix”? – Peggy W.

How to communicate with clients that solving reactivity is a lots of work. And one should be ready for setbacks. This is especially hard for conflicted clients who are more inclined to aversive methods but then again they want to do R+.

It is said that ‘Always end on a good note’ when doing training, does this apply for reactive cases as well

For example, say, we are working on a dog who is reactive to bicycles, and we have made progress where the bicycle is 10 ft apart, and the dog is able to engage and disengage, good leash walk, auto check in, able sniff the ground and all the good body cues. But at times maybe his emotional bucket is full, just not in the mood, we really don’t know what is going on ‘in the black box’, setbacks happen, so the dog engaged in barking and lunging at a trigger which was previously considered underthreshold. Now there are 2 options, increase distance or end the session. But if added distance, the dog is still barking. So now, should we end the training, if we end that will be ending on a stressful note for the dog, is that okay?

Great question, @RADS ! I’ll add it to the list!

During our LIVE presentation with Dave Shade tomorrow, you’ll be able to post your questions in the chat, and we’ll take them in turn when we get to the Q&A portion of the event. You can also type your questions here to get other members thinking about what they may want to know about working with dogs – getting started with LLW, solving common LLW problems, and reactive dog training which Dave and his team work on (over 60 lessons each week with reactive dogs!)

Let’s brainstorm a bit more about things we would like to pick Dave’s brain about before our chat tomorrow. What are your burning questions?

I will be at work during this event. Will it be available to watch later?

Hi Melissa, Sorry you can’t make it to the live event – totally understand the scheduling issue.

We will be sharing highlights after the fact, in short clips. Our main topic this month is LLW – so most of the clips we share this month will have to do with that. We’ll save some of the clips for when we dive deep into aggression in all its forms. Stay tuned!

If the dog is already over threshold, what is the best way to get them out of the situation so you stay safe as well? I have seen some dogs redirect aggression onto the owner as they are trying to get them further away from what is triggering the dog.

This is such an important topic, and is something that so common these days. I also have a work conflict today so I won’t be able to join the live presentation. Will there be a way to access the information and/or a live session recording afterward?
