  • Should the Vet or Medical Personnel Ever Talk to Your SD

I have always been told that a Service Dog should learn a cue to let someone pet or talk to them. I let my vet talk to my SDs . I have a new client who was told by the SD organization that she got her dog through, and also the previous trainer that under no circumstances should anyone talk to her SD. Also, I was taught that the SD needs to be able to be handed-off to someone to assist the SD when the handler is unable to take care of the dog’s needs. She won’t allow this to happen.

I would appreciate any comments and opinions on these questions.

    Thank you…

Hi Betty, Since the Service Dog Online Workshop has been completed and is closed, I moved your question to the broader community.

It sounds like there may be more going on here, but I’m wondering if you’re looking for a general rule or something specific to help this client? Please reply in this discussion and let us know how we can help. @Betty
