Great clip, @stomper16 Brenda! Such interesting communication! Jump in, everyone! What signals is stomper (the black with white dog) giving that signal playfulness?

I just love the air space and patience by both dogs.

The black dog didn ‘t seem interested with avoidance behavior by backing away. Seemed ok with space, looking away, but not as interested in the interaction to play

Thank you for the observations. I don’t see avoidance in the play. I will take into context the slippery floor. The black dog seems a little less confident playing on the floor, his hind feet are slipping backwards, where as Stomper slips and slides and is not bothered by it. I don’t see any cut off signals to stop the play by the black dog. In the last clip after a moment of rest, Stomper looks away, the black dog paws him to initiate more play and the play does continue. The video may have cut off a few seconds from the original.

Here’s what I see for behaviors

      Giving each other space

      Quick breaks not continuous play

      Side to side head movements

      Soft mouth

Loose, fluid movements ( the slipping does look a little awkward)

      Bouncy movements

Lots of play bows by Stomper

@stomper16 Brenda, great observations and great video!! You are so right that context and the antecedent arrangement is so critical when considering behaviors/interactions that are occurring. I agree that each time he “slips” a little, he seems to be more reluctant to interact for a bit. My impression is he likes to bring his paw up to initiate play but that maybe that decreases his ability to maintain traction?
