Stressed-Out Shelter Dogs With Jumpy-Mouthy Behavior – Practical Tips!
During our Bounce Back HoundTable, Ferdie Yau shared an impressive case study. A large shepherd mix, Chewy, was jumpy and mouthy and difficult to handle. His adoption prospects were grim. ????
✅Ferdie and his team got to work, initiating stress reduction strategies alongside teaching coping skills… and just a few months later, Chewy was able to better cope and control his impulses. He was successfully adopted. ????
Ferdie said that though some of the behaviors flared up during the stressful transition to the new home, they were able to give the adopter information about the strategies that worked for Chewy. Once the adopter implemented just a couple of these, Chewy remembered his skills. ????
????Gotta love a success story! ????
Here are two clips of Chewy’s training plan. Take a look and let us know if you’ve tried these methods with any dog, whether in a shelter or in a home. How did it go?
