Teaching Leave It in Live Puppy Class – Video
Leave It is a foundational behavior, especially for puppies!????
@AmyMc posted an excellent ▶short clip ◀last week on teaching this with an adult dog.
I also I love to teach Leave It using 100% choice and positive reinforcement.
????The steps I use are simple as you’ll see in this video, and very easy to explain for clients.
1. Closed fist, feed from other hand when they look away.
2. “Clamshell” open/shut; feed from other hand.
3. Switch hands and repeat 1 & 2
4. Take it to the floor and start with clamshell; feed from other hand.
5. Place on floor and feed high for eye contact.
6. Add cue.
7. Drop food with cue.
This sequence seems long, but really, it’s not. Baby Thor learned the whole thing in under 5 minutes total training time. Take a look! ????
