    Hi!

    Congrats on your new journey!

I would shop around. I say this because I have colleagues who have Business of the Carolinas or The Hartford. These two companies were doubled for me through Mouer-Foster. And on the flip side, Mour-Foster was not cost effective for them. I think area and business model play a part.

    I am with Mouer-Foster.

    Best of luck!

Great question, @EJN ! I agree that it is a really sound idea to get your liability insurance before going further.

I agree with @jenz , those seem to be two big ones. I’m with Business Insurers of the Carolinas. They have discounted rates for certain professional affiliation groups, like APDT (Association of Professional Dog Trainers) or Pet Sitters International. I’m a trainer, walker and sitter, so it’s been great for me.

Best of luck to you as you get further into your training journey! So psyched for you!

@EJN , very wise of you to be looking into liability insurance. I had The Hartford for many years but then switched last year to Business Insurers of the Carolinas. Their insurance is customized for our field as well as for each individual business’s needs and, IMO, is far superior to The Hartford.
I’d also recommend you speak with an attorney to get help drafting a service agreement for all your clients to sign in advance of beginning their work with you.
Best wishes on your training journey!

    Hi Elaine,

You’ve already gotten some good suggestions. I’d just add that registering your business as an LLC makes it it’s own “entity” and can help protect your personal assets from liability. Most states have a pretty simple process for this. Congrats on being a business owner and learning all the things! @EJN
