Training LLW INDOORS – Discuss this Video! What do you see?
Posted by Catherine Comden on November 1, 2021 at 9:08 amThis is simply beautiful work from Kate Senisi – and I could ask a bunch of questions about what you are seeing, but really, what I think is best is simply to open this one up – what stands out to you that is new or different? What can you “take home’ from watching this short clip of beautiful training?

I’ve always been taught to give treats with the dog at a heel position. I love her shared idea of placing the treat on the floor to discourage the dog from taking off after getting the treat.

Yes! “Feed where the perfect dog would be!” aka “Feeding for position.”

I like the idea of just having the head halter on, but not attached to the leash yet. Will defiantly recommend, or try this for clients that may need the head halter.

RIght? It’s a great tweener step after you’ve done the desensitization (CER) game for the GL/head halter.

Does anyone use clicker training to reinforce LLW behavior? What are the cons with using clicker training to mark the position, engage the dog’s focus to look at you, simultaneously reinforcing the dog to stay in position with a treat? (I’m not sure if this is where I post this question.)

@Lis oooh! I think this is a discussion all on it’s own. Please add some details about what you see and what you think, and then post it in the Featured Topic channel under a whole new discussion! Let’s talk about it!

Absolutely, I use clickers sometimes for LLW and outdoor training. Clickers are great for “cutting through” all the distractions outside and some dogs respond especially well to the precise sound and timing that a clicker can provide (if used well). I can think of one con for sure, but like Catherine said, let’s hear your thoughts first and then expand @Lis
