Training swap…my personal trainer’s pup!
Posted by Paula Mrazek on April 8, 2022 at 12:46 amHi!
Just thought I’d share a super cute video of my client’s dog, Isaac, whom I’d been training for 6 months before I asked his owner (a personal trainer/running coach) to swap services. I wanted to get into shape again after…well…far too long of being out of it!
This video is after our training session, one of the first ones where she trained me after…Isaac, my buddy, decided to help me with my form, LOL!!!
Hope this makes you smile! I love this pup!!!

????
This is cute!
I had the thought that maybe he could be working on his CPR skills.
Thanks for sharing!

A dog using Stationing to help a person with technique – brilliant! LOL
Seriously though, I’d be much more likely to exercise with a canine-assistant as a reinforcer.

Stationing is teaching an animal to go to a specific spot on cue. I invest a lot of time into Mat Work, teaching dogs to go to and settle on mats or blankets but other trainers might use raised stations that look like tables on very short legs. I love the fact that I can take a dog’s mat anywhere to help them know they have a safe place, a home away from home. Zoo keepers also use stationing with the animal in their care! I think this was started with marine mammal training?

Thank you for the explanation! I do that with my guide dog, but now I have a word for it!

Stationing is a fantastic tool. I dunno who labeled it but it’s been used ever since animals were domesticated to join us in work, methinks. “Stand here while I harness you”, “Stand here to get fed”, “Go there to get to your (whatever they want).” When I first started teaching mat training a couple decades ago, I told my clients, “Ever seen a lion at a circus? How they always know which pedestal is theirs? Yeah, both dogs can have their own mat – trust me; this works!” That visual seemed to help settle the chaos in the owner’s mind. 🙂

What we have here is a whole new business opportunity!! They have “Goat Yoga” why not Dog-Facilitated Fitness classes?!! Great video @bernerlabreclectus !

That is a great idea, @catherine ! I always had laughed when my dogs wanted to participate in my at-home yoga attempts. My Berner would always make sure my poses were stable (huge paw-over my stabilizing appendages) and my Lab kept trying to steal my mat for her own use!
I’ll try to upload pics…so cool we can do that now!

This is cracking me up! He’s like, “okay, good, yep, keep it going, I’ll be watching…” ????
