I lost my best friend last week. I know you all know how that feels… and I wanted to give us a place here in our trusted community to share together, in whatever way that seems good to you.

The pain is still fresh – and I wish I had another 11 years with her. You know?

Who would you like to remember? Share a photo and a story – I’d love to know about your dogs.

I’m so sorry you lost your best friend, Catherine. I hope your heart will heal slowly but surely. I know I already shared this quote with you, but I’d like to share it with the community, too, since I think it’s so beautiful.
“There is a cycle of love and death that shapes the lives of those who choose to travel in the company of animals. It is a cycle unlike any other. To those who have never lived through its turnings or walked its rocky path, our willingness to give our hearts with full knowledge that they will be broken seems incomprehensible. Only we know how small a price we pay for what we receive; our grief, no matter how powerful it may be, is an insufficient measure of the joy we have been given.” Suzanne Clothier

One pet that has left the largest hole in my heart is my first horse Patience. We got him in 2015 when I was eleven. He was already older and had medical problems, but he was the BEST buddy I’ve had. He is the one I would tell my silly teenage worries to, one I would dress up for holidays and just the best bud ever. In the end, we had to put him down because his medical problem was becoming worse. That day was the hardest day of my life. ???? Even till now with 2 more horses and a Donkey later, it still hurts. ❤️ I know that the part of my heart that is missing, is shaped like horse hooves and is galloping in heaven. ❤️

@WaiThePuaPup Patience is such a beautiful name for a horse, and it looks like he lived up to his name. What a great soul to have around to help through awkward teen years! Such beautiful pictures!!

Thanks for sharing your dear Patience with us, @WaiThePuaPup – such a beautiful horse and special relationship. Horses are like no other when it comes to earning trust and exploring the depth of the human-animal bond.

@catherine i am so sorry you lost your “Joy” literally!!❤️ it’s amazing the bond we create with our dogs and most of what they give us each and every day. Every time we lose one my husband is like we can’t do this again. It’s just so painful! And of course we do it all over again. I honestly think it’s the only terrible thing owning a dog is making the decision to help them move on or lose them. Joy had a beautiful 11 years- the time is never enough. I hope you get some quiet time to yourself and feel her love around you❤️

@pawsup – I agree with your husband. I think if I didn’t already have Bliss, I’d at least be taking a break from having dogs. I’ve had the privilege of sharing my life closely with many dogs, but this loss is different.

Thanks too, @virginiad for sharing that lovely quote here – and for your comforting words.

Thanks, @bernerlabreclectus – I know you know, too, the depth of loss. I appreciate your kind words.

    @catherine

I am holding you and your Joyful Joy close in my heart and thoughts. She sounds like she was the best girl!!! I’m sure your girls miss her, too, and hope they are helping you through this difficult time.

I’ve lost my own 2 best friends right as I started my dog training journey. I had lots of other dogs love on me and let me love them back. So grateful for my clients dogs. I’ve also lost a few of their dogs along my 5-year professional walker journey. I remember them all so easily. It’s so easy to love all dogs!!!

No one, but you, knows the true depth of your loss, but she’s always going to live there in your heart. All my sympathies to you, dear Catherine.

I’m so sorry – I often wonder why dogs can’t live forever. Praying for you!

This tribute is to my dear friend, Oliver, who just passed over the Rainbow Bridge this Saturday early morning. He was 17 years old! I have known him for 3 years, seeing him and his sisters for daily walks 2 or 3 times daily, 5 days a week. You get to know someone deep and hard when you see them that often.

A beautiful blonde boy long haired dachshund and eldest of the three dachshund (aka the Three Musketeers). His sisters, Charcoal (16 years) and Zsa Zsa (15) are having a hard time without him. Dogs just know and mourn their loss their own way, you know?

Glad to share photos with you and tell you what a happy soul he was. He was definitely a mamma’s boy (for good reason, she took excellent care of him!) and gave the best barky greetings, followed by me rubbing his soft ears. It was much too quiet when I went on Sunday to visit. He was the voice of the three!

To Oliver, my buddy…I know you’re doing something funny, eating as many carrots and meatballs as you like, and hoping you are enjoying the rest. You deserve it! ????

So sorry to here this, @bernerlabreclectus . I know first-hand how easy it is to get attached to some of our clients’ dogs. A couple of days ago, the dearest Golden I’ve ever known passed away. I feel so lucky I’ve had a chance to help care for her over the past 8 years. She brought so much joy to my dogs and other visiting dogs in my home.

I am saddened to read of your loss of Lilly Mae Sue. After 8 years, I can’t even imagine the heartbreak other than feeling like a loss of your own dog.

I hope you smile everytime you think of her.

Thank you @jenz . It is comforting to bring joy to the other two girls. I took them for a stroller rider yesterday evening, instead of the usual short walk to potty. Neither wanted to walk, but they LOVED the stroller.????

Sorry for the loss of your best fur friend. The great thing about dogs is they leave us with great memories & think of all the laughs your pet brought into your life.. Dogs can help make us a better person. Nothing can replace your great dog, except to get another dog to bring you all the joy like a dog or cat. Take care.
