  • Video: Bulldog III – Trouble Started – Body Language Breakdown Part 7 of 8

Posted by David Muriello on May 10, 2022 at 10:36 am

????We don’t get nearly as much action from Bulldog as we do from Brindle. But when we finish this observation stage we’ll discuss why it’s clear that Bulldog is “saying” a lot. ????What do YOU see from Bulldog in these 15 seconds? ✍????

    • Observe just the Bulldog.
    • Choose a range of 3 seconds to that you are going to focus on.
    • For those 3 seconds, list the details for any body language or behavior you see in Bulldog.
    • Time stamp your list just by writing the “second” you saw it in front of your observations.

????This is the second to last post on “seeing”. Dive in ????‍♀️because we’re excited to move into the interpretation stage next. Every member that shares their observations will have their name included in our final writeup.

    1. Body still, head starts facing person, mouth closed, right ear appears rotated in direction of person while left appears down and back. Head then turns toward to face Brindle as brindle enters into view, eyes blinking, ears back. BD lowers head, eyes blink , mouth still closed as Brindle gets closer

    2. Body in same still position as above, ears back, eyes blinking, head facing downward a bit then moves to face left a bit

    3. Body in same still position as above 2 seconds, ears back, eyes appear to blink once, head still facing downward turns to right. Shakes-off

1 sec – Bulldog’s eyes close; ears back

2 sec – lowers head as brindle licks his head

3 sec – turns head away from brindle

4 sec – BIG shake off

6 sec – licks lips; turns/walks away from brindle

7 sec – walks next to side of armchair (rawhide bone on the floor by bulldog) and walks closer to armchair as brindle engages; bulldog head tilts right

8 sec – Bulldog pushes brindle away; mouth opens wide

9 sec – ears back, mouth halfway open; body turns towards brindle with a wide stance

10 sec – licks his lips; mouth opens; front legs maintain wide stance

    11 sec – orients towards camera/videographer

13 sec – eyes seem to soften when light is turned on

14 sec – another big lip lick

9sec- mouth closed, weight still back, legs braced, tension, pushes other dog away

10- look away, tongue flick, mouth closed, weight still back, looks towards owner

    Kinda late I know…..

7 sec. post shake-off, Bd moves away, rear weight is in back legs/ hip pushing into chir, brced

8 sec. repelling 2nd “attack” mouth fully open, attempted bite – uninhibited?-, lifted left paw – for balance?- fast, clipped growl-like bark.

9/ 10 sec. panting, oriented fully toward Brindle, stands very slightly away from chair, still bracing tho. Maybe due to likely noise interruption, Bd suddenly turns full body toward the camera. {Note: b/c of the Bd’s size of ears (small) & the camera’s slightly ‘height-biased’ view (????), had hard time clearly defining what his/her ears were doing/ communicating, they might have been forward since Bd body was in general tense & taking defensive stance otherwise, but not certain.} This exercise was excellent for building observational discipline— so hard to quit @ the 3 sec. mark! ???? Awesome B.L. training for all us student-types!! Thanks a mill, David, Abby and (??) !!
