Rewards that come from “out of the blue”!

By setting up these rewards prior to training, the dogs most likely will “forget” about them. Then, you can ask/cue behaviors without a lure or food present. When the dog performs the behavior, you surprise them with these. It can help keep the dog motivated by not knowing where and when a reward will happen, thus making it “worth it” it to perform behaviors.

@david I’m excited to see what you’ve got cooking. @jenz thoughts about what your plan might be are pretty good!

I agree with @jenz. Hiding rewards is definitely a powerful effect because it shows the dog that Greta things really happen when they listen and makes things even more exciting.

It also helps to see if the dog will response to a cue without the dig knowing that there is a treat waiting for him.

@Jenz @KTinaN @AmyMc You guys are on top of it, yes. This is a setup for rewards from “out of the blue” (great phrase Jennifer). But there’s something more that I will be practicing with this setup. Any additional thoughts/guesses? I’ll show you soon!

      Hmmm.

The treat pouch is hanging low where the dog(s) can reach. Will you be calling the dog(s) away from the pouch, in order to get the surprise treats or the kong? Or give them access to the kong and ask them to move away or leave it for one of the surprise treats?

@david Thank you for the really cool and creative setup! I need to do this more often myself. Can’t wait to see the “part 2” of this idea!
