@Abbie Spot on! Yes! If we visit the “road map” for behavior change by Susan Friedman, et.al., we see that extinction is one of our last options. If we consider the emotions involved in frustration and how arousal can escalate a dog’s behavior, well, it’s also much safer for the humans to start with “happier” training methods, don’t you think? I don’t know anyone who wants to be frustrated.
